Story of the first owner
"I'm Andre Voest, the first owner of the Datsun 240Z with registration number 87-AM-54 and chassis number HLS30-122130 (built in 1972).
In 1974, I worked at my parents' business in Utrecht center. At that time we had a summer house in Breukelen and at the end of the day we drove to Breukelen via the Amsterdamsestraatweg. I had already noticed a flashy car for sale in a small garage there. I went there to have a look. It turned out to be a Datsun 240Z. New and for sale for some time at Auto company Bilthoven. It was a car like I had never seen before. I fell in love with this car.
My father thought I could use a better car because I was often out and about for business. I went to talk to him. I seem to remember that the asking price at the time was 21000 guilders, which was a bit over budget. However, my parents thought it was a beautiful car and that was my luck.
I regularly went shopping with my mother at the clothing center in Amsterdam, and at one point we were at one of our suppliers. Whether I could come to the phone (mobile phones were not there yet). My father needed to speak to me, surely there would be nothing unpleasant! And there came the big news. Yes boy I just bought that car you like so much. An indescribable moment.
And then, as a young boy, I owned a Datsun 240Z , given to me by my parents for everything I had meant and would mean to the company.
I often took the Datsun on shopping trips to Paris and of course there were the necessary girlfriends I impressed. As well as business associates, who suddenly took me very seriously. That opened many doors.
When I just had it I drove to Rome with my brother, I was 21 my brother was 17. Control, right down to hash dogs. On the way back, still in Italy, we drove on a small road with grass on the side. When I wanted to stop to get a drink and drove to the shoulder, we felt the car sink into the grass. And it went further and further. Panic! It was a ditch. He was almost on the side! We didn't know what to do. After a while a helpful motorist came, he knew someone in the nearby village with a crane truck. My brother had to ride along. There I was, waiting for help. After about an hour, to my great relief, I saw a small crane truck arrive with my brother in it. And it was a miracle he winched it out and there was not a scratch on it. We got away with nothing.
This car has had a special place in my life.
A year or two ago I suddenly thought would this Datsun still be driving around somewhere. I remembered the licence plate number by heart. On the Internet you can look up the licence plate and I knew it was still around somewhere, but where?
Through the RDW, who liked my story, I came into contact with Chris and that is how a nice contact started. And the fact that he restored the car in such a fantastic way I think is great. And I hope the car will stay in his possession for a long time to come. Very special that Chris involved me in this, so he is still a little bit mine."
Second owner Rob de Koning from 1981 onwards drove the car for several years and stored the car in the end of the Eighties with the intention of restoring it. But time flies and in the pictures you can see how the car was pulled out of the storage from Rob de Koning.
Fortunately, the car was still very original and things like the dashboard could be reassembled after a thorough cleaning. The trunk mat is also still original, the front mats have been replaced with NOS mats of exactly the type that goes with the car.
Because it was a Dutch car, a lot has been done to the bodywork. The car has been restored with left and right NOS frame rails, a NOS left inner fender.
This car will not be for sale, but we have some EU final spec cars as projects.
