Restoration

It's all about perfection. Always.

Thousands of hours of work, the expertise of more than 60 S30 restorations and unconditional attention to detail: this is what characterizes a S30.world restoration and how historically authentic automotive work of art is created - in a quality as if the S30 just came out of the factory. A real investment with an amazing fun factor.

Details matter

Restoring the vehicle to its original condition requires experience and the utmost care. Sometimes you have to compare more cars to understand which part was on which car. Most of the time it is very logical. It is always important to imagine how it was made to be able to give it the same appearance. Our collection of first paint Datsun 240Zs, our project Datsun 240Zs and all the NOS parts as a reference really makes the difference for us to help us to create S30s as they left the factory. Here you see some of our first paint cars.

Here, the S30 is brought back to life with the utmost precision and conscientious dedication. The S30.world team brings together specialists from many expertises, starting with the bodywork, But first we take the car apart and make a survey of the condition of the parts. Which parts are still restorable and which parts need to be replaced. That is also the time to start looking for these parts. Often we find them in house because we have built up a huge stock of used and new parts over the years.

Second in the process is the bodywork. The true to original reconstruction is what makes us happy: the professional bodywork according to factory standards. We are not satisfied until the bodywork looks like one that came from the factory more than 50 years ago. For that, we have 2 body workers who do nothing but work on S30s.
Each body shell is taken apart layer by layer until every location that rusts or may rust is addressed. From there, the body shell is slowly rebuilt with NOS sheet metal, or hand-formed sheet metal. Sometimes we also use available aftermarket sheet metal, although here a lot of time often goes into reworking and really fitting. Our aim is to restore the bodywork in such a way that it can no longer be perceived that any work has been done on it. We pay maximum attention to correctly applying the original spot welds to finally get the result as the bodywork left the factory. Only then the bodyshell is ready for paint. Every part of the bodywork can be hand-made by us. Because the bodywork of the S30 has undergone subtle changes over the years, replacement sheet metal also always has to be modified. If the replacement parts are too different, the choice is still made to manufacture the part by hand. The ability to hand-make all parts becomes really important when working on a Fairlady Z432-R or a "Works" rally car with thinner sheet metal. Here you see some pictures of HLS30-122130. A Dutch EU Final spec car that was in a very bad shape!

At the same time as the bodywork is done, the engine, drivetrain and chassis components are completely overhauled and reconditioned to make the car as run as smooth as never before. Our electrics department is essential: checking, repairing and producing wiring harnesses, checking and repairing starters, alternators, and making all other electrical components in the car functional and visual as new!
The refurbishment of all other components, and every part, if you see it or not, went through our hands.

The paintwork follows the same order as when the car was once produced. This means that, for example, the bonnet is mounted on the car when the car is painted, but the tailgate, for example, is not. There are a number of other things by which you can tell if a car has been repainted the same way it was originally done. What is also important is that the insulation mats that are applied before spraying are correctly mounted. The underbody is also painted in the original color and in the way as it was painted from the factory. Everything is carefully and thoroughly restored to new condition.

Once all the parts are ready and the body paint has cured, everything comes back together and the assembly can begin. All components are restored and tested again and brought back to the same finish as it was before. Everything, but everything, has been addressed.

The interior is finished in the way as it was done 50 years ago. We produce the material for the chair's inner track ourselves, this to come as close as possible to the look of the original seat, also the underside of the seat has the same attention to detail as the parts you see. To achieve this we had to invest a lot of time and attention to the relationship with the upholsterer. Our enthusiasm also made him super motivated to achieve the best result possible.
