Even before the Datsun 240Z and its brothers of the S30 series landed in the modern world and in the hands of fans of classic sports cars after 50 years, there were already tuning parts for these cars.
And we're not talking about tuning parts that can be sent to you from a webshop within a few days.
We are talking about parts that have their origins in racing. We are talking about parts that have advertised successes in racing.
One of the manufacturers of such tuning parts was and still is Koni.
That doesn't sound so surprising at first. Koni is world-famous and is still recommended for many vehicles today.
But Koni actually comes from Europe and was based in Oud-Beijerland in the Netherlands. So it was a long and amazing journey to the USA.
However, you have to take a closer look at the history. It turns out that Koni B.V. was taken over by the US company ITT Industries Inc. in 1972.
At that time, ITT was a real conglomerate and, in addition to automotive components, also included insurance, car rental, satellite communications and various other industries.
It was therefore relatively easy to gain contacts in motor sports through this widespread network and thus also become a supplier of sports shock absorbers for Nissan.
One of the advertising media used was Bob Sharp, who was featured in an iconic advertisement.
